The Church of S. Flaviano in Tavolero

The Church of S. Flaviano in the locality of Tavolero can be considered the most interesting and characteristic example of the Monti della Laga area. The building has a single hall typology with a square choir; the portal is placed on the south side and therefore not in axis with the choir, to the east, while the pitched roof develops in the north – south direction.
Not far from the ancient town, the presence of a church so architecturally important and precisely it is hard to believe that that building of worship is what remains of a church, originally, even larger.
Just thinking about the time of its construction, around 1300, considering the lack of roads, the only pedestrian accessibility of those places and the great remoteness of significant inhabited areas, one is surprised by the question of why in that place, so isolated, someone wanted to build that Christian temple like this imposing.
