From Ceppo to the Jacci di Verre
sheepfolds and the “Faggi torti”
An evocative route in the heart of the Laga Mountains leads from Ceppo to the Jacci di Verre sheepfolds, crossing through forests, streams, and vast high-altitude meadows.
From the Ceppo parking area, follow the road towards the campsite. After passing the fork, take the dirt track to the left and continue along the path marked number 300 and the Sentiero Italia (Italy Trail) markers. The route climbs gradually through the woods, immersed in the natural setting of the Bosco Martese forest.
After about an hour of walking, you reach the Jacci di Verre sheepfolds, home to the distinctive “Faggi Torti” (Twisted Beeches): clusters of beech trees—ranging from young saplings to ancient specimens—recognizable by their sharply curved trunks.
The trees’ unusual shape is primarily due to the slow creep of the soil—an imperceptible, constant ground movement—compounded by the effects of wind and the weight of snow.
The Twisted Beeches make Jacci di Verre one of the most fascinating and unique spots in the Laga area, ideal for those wishing to enjoy an immersive walk amidst nature, scenery, and geological curiosities.
